SB 1016 -- COUNTY TAX RATE DEADLINE

SPONSOR:  Gross (Schneider)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Local Government by a vote of 13 to 0.

This bill changes the deadline for a county commission to set the
annual tax rate from August 10 to September 20.

The bill contains an emergency clause.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2007, FY 2008, and
FY 2009.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that counties of the first
classification cannot and do not meet the August deadline, so the
bill will simply codify current practice.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Gross.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
